Looking into the fort itself to the east (the interior is filled with the dark bracken). Centre-left is a pile of stones: this is one of many much more recent shelters built for livestock.

Looking down to the west of the fort, a circular well/pond can be clearly seen in the centre of the picture. This is outside the main fort but within a secondary rampart.

This timber-laced fort consists of a ruined inner wall some 35 feet thick enclosing an area 200 feet by 120 feet. Outside this wall is a second wall up to 50 feet thick and twelve feet high. There are two more ramparts further out to the north and west of the fort.
