One of the inner stones has a very strong red colour. Undoubtedly the stones were chosen for the way they looked...but there is no way of knowing if there was some deep meaning to the choice of the pattern or colour, or if it was for purely artistic reasons.

Just another couple of hundred yards from Calanais II is the complex Calanais III. This has been interpreted as an outer ring with an inner ring, quadrangle or cove; a complex double ellipse; and as two concentric circles with an inner cove.
